Breast Augmentation in Colombia: Cost, Implants and Recovery

Breast augmentation in Colombia usually costs about USD 3,000 to 5,500 as an all-in surgical package, based on prices Colombian clinics advertise in November 2026. A Bogotá clinic lists it at COP 12,000,000 (about USD 3,000) and a Medellín surgeon gives a reference price of USD 5,000 including implants. In the United States, patients on RealSelf report an average total of USD 7,548. This guide covers what the price includes, which implants are used, how long you need to stay, and how to check a surgeon before you pay a deposit.
How much does breast augmentation cost in Colombia?
Colombian quotes are normally package prices: surgeon, anesthesiologist, operating room, the implants and the first follow-up visits in one number. That makes them easy to compare with each other, but only with US prices of the same type. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) average of USD 4,294 is the surgeon's fee alone, without anesthesia, facility or implants, so it is not a fair comparison. The RealSelf figure is what patients say they paid in total.
| Source | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| ALMO Clinic, Bogotá (clinic website, checked Nov 2026) | COP 12,000,000 (about USD 3,000) | Physician fees, operating room and supplies |
| Dr. David Delgado, Medellín (clinic website, July 2026) | USD 5,000 reference price | Implants, surgeon, anesthesia, operating room, follow-up |
| Our price survey of Colombian packages | About USD 2,500 to 5,400 | All-in surgical package |
| United States, RealSelf patient reports | USD 7,548 average (USD 3,900 to 12,500) | Total paid, 2,477 reviews |
| United States, ASPS 2024 average | USD 4,294 | Surgeon's fee only |
All Colombian figures are advertised marketing prices, not audited fees. Your final quote depends on the implant brand and size, whether a lift is needed, the facility and the surgeon. For the wider picture, see our plastic surgery prices by procedure.
What is included in a breast augmentation package?
Ask for the quote in writing and check each of these lines. A good quote names them separately or says clearly that they are included.
- Surgeon's fee and the anesthesiologist's fee
- Operating room and the facility where you recover for the first hours
- The implants, with brand, model and size
- Pre-operative tests (blood work and any imaging the surgeon asks for)
- Post-operative bra or compression band and medication
- Follow-up visits while you are still in Colombia
- Who answers your questions after you fly home
Not normally included: flights, your hotel or recovery house, a companion's costs and travel insurance. Our guide to recovery house vs hotel vs Airbnb helps with the stay.
Which breast implants are used in Colombia?
Colombian surgeons mostly use silicone gel implants from international manufacturers. Whatever brand you are offered, ask three things:
- The exact model and its sanitary registration. Medical devices sold in Colombia need an Invima sanitary registration, and you can check a registration number in Invima's public search.
- Smooth or textured surface. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says breast implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare cancer of the immune system, appears more often with textured implants.
- Your implant card. Ask for the patient device card with the serial or lot number, style and size. You will need it for any future check or revision at home.
The FDA is clear that breast implants are not lifetime devices: the longer you have them, the more likely complications and further surgery become. Since 2021 US labeling includes a boxed warning and a patient decision checklist. Ask your Colombian surgeon to go through the manufacturer's patient information with you in the same way.
How long is recovery after breast augmentation?
According to ASPS, acute pain usually settles within one to five days, with soreness and swelling for a few weeks. Most people with a desk job return to work after about a week. Light leg and arm exercise often restarts around three weeks, and strenuous exercise and upper body work wait until about six weeks, always on your surgeon's instructions. Final shape takes months to settle.
| Time after surgery | What is typical |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Up and walking; support bra worn around the clock |
| Days 1 to 5 | Acute pain eases; first check with the surgeon |
| About 1 week | Desk work and light daily activity |
| About 3 weeks | Light exercise without the chest, if cleared |
| About 6 weeks | Strenuous and upper body exercise, if cleared |
How long should I stay in Colombia after breast augmentation?
Plan on about 10 days. The CDC Yellow Book advises medical travelers not to fly for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery. The UK NHS gives 5 to 7 days for breast surgery. The safer plan is the longer one, with a final check by your surgeon before you fly. If you combine the augmentation with a tummy tuck or liposuction, the stay gets longer.
How do I choose a breast augmentation surgeon in Colombia?
- Specialty and license. Check the surgeon's plastic surgery specialty in the national health workforce register (ReTHUS) and membership in the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery (SCCP), which keeps a public directory.
- The facility. The clinic or operating room must be registered in the Ministry of Health's REPS register for the service. Ask for the facility's name and look it up.
- Breast experience. Ask how many augmentations the surgeon does per year and to see before and after photos of patients with a similar starting point.
- Real reviews. Compare Google ratings and read recent reviews, not only the clinic's own testimonials.
Our breast surgery directory ranks more than 100 Colombian surgeons and clinics by Google reviews. On 3 November 2026 the top of that list included Dr. Daniel Correa in Medellín (4.9 stars, about 1,700 reviews) and Clínica Especialistas del Poblado in Medellín (4.8 stars, about 1,900 reviews). In Bogotá, Dr. Federico Vargas focuses his practice on breast surgery. Ratings change, so check the live listing before you decide.
What to watch out for
- Very low prices. A quote far below the range above often leaves out the anesthesiologist, the implant or an accredited facility. Ask what is missing.
- Agencies that do not name the surgeon. You should know who operates on you and where, before you pay anything.
- Pressure to add procedures. Combining surgeries means a longer operation and a longer stay. Decide with the surgeon, not with a salesperson.
- Revisions later. The FDA advises assuming you will need more surgery at some point. Ask what the clinic charges for a revision and what your home insurance would pay for complications (often nothing for cosmetic surgery).
- Travel insurance. Standard travel insurance usually excludes elective surgery. Check the policy wording before you rely on it.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a boob job in Colombia?

How many days do I need in Colombia for breast augmentation?
Plan about 10 days after surgery before flying, plus one or two days before surgery for the consultation and tests.
Are the implants in Colombia the same as in the US?
Colombian surgeons use international implant brands, but approval rules differ by country. Ask for the exact model and its Invima registration, and keep your implant card.
Which city is best for breast augmentation in Colombia?
Medellín, Bogotá and Cali all have many plastic surgeons. Price comparisons between cities disagree, so choose the surgeon first and the city second. Browse clinics in Medellín or the full breast surgery directory.
