Plastic Surgery Packages in Colombia: What’s Included

A Colombian plastic surgery package normally includes the surgeon’s fee, the anaesthesiologist and pre-anaesthetic evaluation, the operating room and surgical team, implants where the procedure uses them, first-night hospitalisation, and follow-up visits during your stay. It normally does not include your flights, your accommodation after discharge, your compression garment beyond the first one, your lymphatic drainage sessions, or anything that goes wrong once you are home. Built up line by line, the true trip cost lands roughly 35% to 45% above the headline surgical price, before flights. A $3,000 tummy tuck package is realistically a $4,100 trip.

What is included in a Colombian plastic surgery package?

More than a US quote of the same name, which is the main reason the comparison looks so favourable. Across Colombian clinics and medical tourism agencies the inclusions are consistent:

• The surgeon’s professional fee, the honorarios
• The anaesthesiologist’s fee and the pre-anaesthetic evaluation, the valoracion preanestesica
• Operating room, surgical team, nursing, instrumentation and supplies

Medical tourism packages usually add airport transfers, accommodation for a set number of nights, a coordinator, and sometimes travel insurance. That bundling is why an international package sits above the price a Colombian pays domestically. It is legitimate, but it means you must check the night count.

What is not included?

This is where budgets break. These are published Colombian costs converted at 3,203.75 pesos to the dollar, the rate on 22 September 2026. They are approximate 2026 ranges from clinic and agency price pages, not audited surveys.

Two deserve emphasis. Lymphatic drainage is prescribed, not optional: Colombian surgeons commonly recommend 10 to 15 sessions after liposuction, so a package including two covers a fraction of what you will be told to have. How much does a recovery house cost?

Plan on $60 to $125 per night, with longer stays discounted. One Medellin recovery house publishes 390,000 pesos per day, about $122, for stays of 3 to 19 days, dropping to about $115 for 20 days or more, with the longer rate adding airport transport, accompaniment on surgery day and one medical review. The standard offering is a private room with bathroom, 24 hour professional assistance, post-operative nutrition and laundry. Over a 10 to 14 day stay that is roughly $600 to $1,750.

How long do you actually need to stay?

Longer than the package usually covers, which is where extension fees appear. The CDC advises delaying air travel for 10 to 14 days after major surgery, particularly chest surgery, to reduce clot risk. Add 2 to 3 days before surgery for labs and the pre-anaesthetic evaluation, or about 6 days if your flight is longer than around four hours.

A tummy tuck also needs the drains out before you fly. And if a package covers seven nights for a procedure whose own recommended stay is fourteen, you are paying for the second week yourself.

What does the trip actually cost?

Here is the arithmetic for a full tummy tuck, using only published figures and a realistic 12 to 17 night stay.

That is 38% above the headline price at the low end and 45% above at the high end. The same build for a lipo 360 or BBL patient staying 12 days comes to roughly $6,000 to $7,800 before flights: about $4,000 to $5,500 of surgery, about $1,440 of accommodation, and $500 to $900 of garments, massages, medication and labs. Flights are not in either figure because they depend on your city and season; quote them live and add them.

One clinic states North American BBL patients typically spend $5,000 to $8,000 in total including flights and lodging. That matches the build above only at the very low end of surgical pricing, so treat it as a floor, not a norm. • Does the price include the anaesthesiologist, or only the surgeon?
• Is anaesthesia given by a specialist physician anaesthesiologist, not a technician?
• Are pre-operative labs and the pre-anaesthetic evaluation included?
• Is the compression garment included, and how many?
• How many lymphatic drainage sessions are included, and what does each extra one cost?
• Is a surgical complications insurance policy included, and what does it cover?
• How many post-operative follow-up visits, and on which days?
• Is accommodation included, for how many nights, and is it a recovery house with nursing or just a hotel?
• What happens, and who pays, if a complication appears after you have flown home?

What the package will not cover if it goes wrong

Revision surgery, complications and the extra weeks they cost are the exclusions nobody quotes for. Medical complication travel insurance is generally not part of a package, and the CDC advises obtaining travel health insurance covering medical evacuation before you go. The other thing a package cannot buy you is a qualified surgeon. Colombian law does not restrict cosmetic surgery to plastic surgeons, so an inclusive-sounding package can still be sold by someone who is not one. Usually, because the dominant costs are shared: one operating room booking, one anaesthesia, one admission, one recovery. What matters more is what sits inside the bundle. A package with seven nights of accommodation for a fourteen day recovery is not cheaper than one with fourteen nights at a higher headline price.

Can I stay in a hotel instead of a recovery house?
