Where to Stay in Cali for Plastic Surgery Recovery: Tequendama, the South or Granada?

Updated 6 October 2026. Information only, not medical advice.

Short answer: book a room within a short taxi ride of your surgeon, in one of three areas of Cali. Choose Tequendama and San Fernando if your clinic is on the Calle 5 medical corridor, the south around Unicentro and Ciudad Jardín if your surgeon's office is on Carrera 100, and Granada or Santa Mónica if your clinic is in the north. Plan to stay at least 5 to 7 days after body procedures and 7 to 10 days after facial surgery before you fly home. That is the minimum wait the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) suggests, and your surgeon may ask for longer.

Why does the area matter more than the hotel?

The plastic surgery offices in our Cali directory sit in three clusters that are a cross-town drive apart. In the first week you go back and forth for check-ups, dressing changes and drainage massages, usually in a compression garment and not in the mood for traffic. So pick the area first and the hotel second. Check the address on the clinic's listing before you book, and ask your surgeon where the operation itself takes place, because the consulting office and the operating clinic can be in different buildings.

Climate matters too. Cali lies at about 1,000 metres above sea level with an average temperature of 25 °C, according to Colombia's Instituto Caro y Cuervo. It is warm all year, so confirm air conditioning in writing. You will be wearing that garment day and night.

Tequendama and San Fernando: closest to the Calle 5 clinics?

This is the practical choice. Several clinics from our directory are close together around Calle 5:

  • Clínica Láser, Cali branch, Calle 5C #43-30, Barrio Tequendama (4.9 from 222 Google reviews).
  • Mágica Escultura, Carrera 44 #5C-122 (4.5 from 185 reviews).
  • Dr. Carlos Alberto Ríos, Calle 4 #35A-08 (4.8 from 168 reviews).
  • Clínica Imbanaco, a large private hospital, Carrera 38 Bis #5B2-04 (4.0 from 439 reviews).

Hotels here are small and mid-range rather than luxurious, and they had the lowest advertised prices of the three areas in our check. Hotel Imbanaco Cali, for example, was advertised at about USD 50 per night. Choose this area if your clinic is here and you care more about a short ride than about a view.

The south (Unicentro and Ciudad Jardín): best for calm and space?

Three surgeons in our directory list offices in the Unicentro complex on Carrera 100: AMPM Cirugía Plástica (5.0 from 122 Google reviews), Dr. César Cuadros (5.0 from 138) and Dr. Carlos Recio (4.6 from 91). Booking.com's neighbourhood guide describes nearby Ciudad Jardín as a modern area known for its green spaces and a more relaxed environment away from the city centre, which is what most people want in week one.

The chain hotels here cost more. NH Cali Royal was advertised at about USD 111 per night and Hotel MS Ciudad Jardín at about USD 82. Calibelleza also advertises a boutique recovery house in the south of the city with 24-hour nursing, but it publishes no nightly rate.

Granada and Santa Mónica: right if your clinic is in the north?

The north has its own cluster. Clínica de Otorrinolaringología y Cirugía Plástica is at Avenida 4 Norte #14N-38 in Granada (4.8 from 315 Google reviews). Dr. Jaime Alberto Zapata (4.6 from 110) and Dr. Andrés Felipe Díaz Paz (4.8 from 40) both consult at Calle 36 Norte #6A-65 in Santa Mónica Residencial, and Clínica de Occidente, a general hospital, is at Calle 18 Norte #5-34 (4.3 from 1,252).

Granada is known for its restaurants, which helps a companion more than a patient. Booking.com calls it a trendy, upscale neighbourhood known for its gastronomic scene and nightlife, so ask for a room that does not face the street. Ibis Cali Granada was advertised at about USD 62 per night and Casa Santa Monica at about USD 61.

Recovery house, hotel or apartment in Cali?

Some surgeons arrange this for you. Dr. César Cuadros, for example, states on his page for international patients that he has agreements with recovery houses in the city and that his massage team visits patients daily. Ask your own surgeon the same question before you book anything yourself.

None of the Cali recovery houses we checked publishes a nightly rate. Get the price per night in writing, along with what it includes, whether the nurses are licensed professionals, and which hospital they use in an emergency. Our guide to recovery house vs hotel vs Airbnb has the full checklist. A hotel is enough for many smaller procedures if a companion stays with you. Do not spend the first nights alone in an apartment.

What should you watch out for?

  • Stay in the city. The US State Department rates Colombia Level 3, reconsider travel (advisory issued 31 March 2026). It lists Valle del Cauca as do not travel but excludes the city of Cali. In practice: recover in Cali and skip road trips into the rest of the department.
  • Do not hail taxis on the street. The same advisory tells travellers to use a dispatch service or a ride app. Ask the hotel or clinic to order your car.
  • The airport is not in Cali. Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport (CLO) is in the neighbouring municipality of Palmira. Arrange the pickup with your clinic or hotel before you land, and confirm it in writing.
  • The pool is not for you. ASPS says patients should not sunbathe, drink alcohol, swim or take extensive tours after surgery. In a warm city known for salsa that takes discipline. Save the dancing for a later trip.
  • Charm is not a reason. San Antonio, the historic quarter, is lovely for a visit, but none of the clinics named here are located there.
  • Book flexible nights. Your surgeon decides when you can fly, not the calendar. Choose a rate you can extend or cancel.

Frequently asked questions

How many nights should I book in Cali after plastic surgery?

ASPS suggests waiting 5 to 7 days after body procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation, and 7 to 10 days after facial procedures, before flying. Treat that as the minimum. Add the nights before surgery for your consultation and tests, and ask your surgeon for the full number in writing.

Is it better to stay in the north or the south of Cali?

Whichever side your clinic is on. The south around Unicentro and Ciudad Jardín is quieter and greener. Granada in the north has more restaurants and more noise at night. Tequendama sits between the two and is closest to the Calle 5 clinics.

Do surgeons in Cali arrange accommodation?

Some do. Dr. César Cuadros's website mentions agreements with recovery houses in the city. Others leave it to you. Ask before you pay a deposit, and ask whether the price of the stay is part of the quote or separate.

Is altitude a problem in Cali?

Cali is at about 1,000 metres, far lower than Bogotá. The thing to plan for is heat: the average temperature is 25 °C, so air conditioning is worth paying for while you wear a compression garment.
