SOMECA (Servicios Odontomédicos del Caribe) is a long-established dental clinic in Barranquilla, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, located at Cra. 42G No. 80 in the city. It is one of the few clinics in the area to advertise round-the-clock dental emergency care (‘Urgencias Odontológicas 24 Horas’), alongside a broad range of specialties: orthodontics and dental aesthetics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric dentistry, oral rehabilitation and prosthetics, endodontics, periodontics, and 3D diagnostic imaging. The clinic also offers sleep-apnea treatment and gives patients online access to their radiographs and 3D scans. It works with Colombian EPS and private or prepaid insurance as well as private-pay patients, and states it holds a current health registration (‘Registro Sanitario’). The clinic states it has operated for around 38 years. Barranquilla is a growing Caribbean hub where dental care is often more affordable than in North America or Europe; international patients should confirm English-language support and scheduling ahead of any visit. I am a senior citizen. I went to the clinic and received good care, but I want to especially mention Miss Mari from admissions because she was very helpful. She was patient with me and explained everything calmly. I was having trouble with the authorizations, and she guided me and kept a close eye on my case. I am very grateful for her attention. Thank you also to the Someca Clinic.

Let's talk about the service, not the professionals. The service is very bad; waiting times are very long. It can take more than 45 minutes for an appointment. Interestingly, you might see up to five staff members, but only one is actually attending to you. There's a lot of room for improvement in the service or patient care. The professionals themselves are very good.

I went to the clinic because of severe pain that was really bothering me. Although I wasn't bleeding or experiencing any condition that the doctor considered an emergency, the pain was intense, and I expected at least some guidance or support. I was told I had to make an appointment elsewhere. I felt ignored and unsupported during a difficult time. I believe there should be more empathy and support for patients, even when it's not a life-threatening emergency.

My appointment was at 3pm, but as of 5pm I was still waiting. I recommend avoiding this place.
