Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe

Hospital Pablo Tobon Uribe (HPTU) is a large private, non-profit general hospital in the Robledo district of Medellin, Colombia. According to the hospital, it began operations in 1970 and was named for Medellin philanthropist Pablo Tobon Uribe. It provides comprehensive adult and pediatric medical care, surgery, and a nationally significant transplant program; HPTU reports performing Colombia’s first multivisceral transplant and pioneering bone-marrow, liver and kidney transplants. It is accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) and certified by ICONTEC, and was designated a University Hospital in 2014. The hospital operates an International Office to assist patients traveling from outside Colombia and reports multilingual support. Medellin is one of Latin America’s leading medical-tourism destinations, and HPTU is among its most recognized referral hospitals for complex and specialized care. Had great experience with Pablo Tabon. The staff are very professional, wonderful experience with the Doctors. They put me in a private room with great view of Medellín. After a few exams was released same day. This hospital has many specialist and most speak English.

I had an accident with uber as a passenger and went to this hospital the day afterwards because I didn't feel good. I told them that my head, neck and body hurt and they did an MRI. Besides this, they didn't do anything. Days later, I had complications also in the neck area and needed to do a second check in another hospital. Also, one of my wounds has not healed after 14 days because they didn't examine me. An object from the street was underneath the wounded skin and they removed it in the other hospital. The doctor at Pablo Tobon Uribe just asked me to describe to her what had happened but did not examine me. They also didn't report this as a accidente de transito even though they are obliged to do so so that police investigates the driver and culprit. They mixed up my country with the wrong country even though I showed them my passport and the documentation for my insurance is wrong. This is consindered to be one of the best hospitals in Medellin.

I am originally from the USA and I have lived in Medellin for 4 years. I was very impressed with the customer service at this hospital. Even though I was not checked in, they helped me find some special medication around the city that was difficult to find.

We were recommended to visit Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe, and we’re so glad we did. Last year, we went to one of the “best” hospitals in Bogotá, but this experience was on a completely different level—it’s hard to even compare.

Every single staff member we encountered was extremely polite, respectful, and attentive. The hospital is very clean, and the team truly listens and does their best to help you. A special thank you to Maria Claudia from the international office—she was amazing! So professional, kind, patient, and dedicated to making sure we had everything we needed.

We also loved the small tents with local vendors—it gave the hospital a warm and lively vibe. Plus, the food court had great variety, which made things even more comfortable.

We highly recommend this hospital to anyone in need of medical care in Medellín!

Awesome hospital. The prices are low and they let you know the cost up front. Many places to eat or have coffee. ATMs are available. There are plenty of staff to help. Efficient process.
